Garuda Indonesia Airlines will add flights to Lombok Airport. This is an effort to increase foreign tourists to visit there.
This was stated by Director of Garuda Indonesia M Arif Wibowo told the media at the Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort, Lombok, Friday (27/07/2017) yesterday. Lombok itself into Mandalika locations are included in the 10 priority tourism destination launched by the government.
"Mandalika is the inclusion of the top 10 destinations of the president. We want to increase the existing capacity in Lombok," said Arif.
Arif said that the current flights by Garuda Indonesia to Lombok that only comes from several regions, such as Surabaya, Jakarta and Denpasar. For most tourists from abroad come to Lombok via flight from Jakarta and Denpasar. Therefore, in the future will add flights to Lombok.
"Some point we will. Lombok must be connected also to Labuan Bajo, Ende, Maumere and several tourist attractions in NTB and NTT plus other areas to Papua," said Arif.
Besides domestic flights, international service to Lombok is also important. Because most travelers go to Lombok from Denpasar. If possible, on a flight from Australia will be opened to Lombok.
"For now gateways still Denpasar. If Denpasar, Japan, Korea, China has become the gateway. Ahead I guess the closest to being the gateway is Australia. They have more frequent travelers," he explained.
In addition, this year Garuda Indonesia has the possibility to present a charter flight from China to Lombok. Regions such as Manado and Mandalika could become an attractive destination for Chinese tourists.
"China is more convenient because it has a large volume. Perhaps (this year) have a charter flight, but could not get to a regular flight for the moment. Although we see the development of the infrastructure is ready," he said.
Garuda Indonesia has recently opened a new route Chengdu Denpasar. This route is also expected to increase tourist visits China to Lombok near Bali.
"We just opened the Chengdu-Denpasar, it carries a huge market, at the same time will also introduce this area to the Chinese market," said Arif.
